The wonders of social networking AKA: Why it can be good to be multi-contactable[More:]

I just contacted a friend via the Kingdom of Loathing messaging system after calling his cell phone and sending him a message on Gmail because he has information I need on comparative SEO prices, and as a result of that information, I may have some work for him in the future.

What's the weirdest method of communication you've ever used in your day job?
I know we had a patron once send us an Ebay page that had the title of a book they were looking for an article from. It was hilarious.

And a bit sad that we couldn't find it anyways, even after all that.

My boss and I leave post it notes. On each other. why? Well, we both frequently nap in our respective offices. Sometimes he will come looking for me to tell me something important but I would be passed out on the couch around 1. I'd see his note but only make it to his office around 3, which is his nap time. And that's how you play post it tag.

we work well together.

A couple friends I had over to dinner and I unwittingly started some sort of runaway bacon theme on facebook last night by posting "mmmm, bacon" on our statuses. It has since gotten just a teensy bit out of hand.

Or is that not what you're looking for?

oh, right... day job. Um, AwesomeBoss and I frequently IM each other because we're both too lazy to walk up the hall but I think this is a not-uncommon occurrence these days.

He's also been picking my brain about AskMeFi lately because he wanted a source of intelligent input on some life coaching thing he's got to do for work, but that's about it.

I vaguely recall a MeCha thread (I think? mebbe it was Ask...) where someone locked themselves out of their apartment and there was a subsequent intercontinental IM- and email-tagathon (involving jessamyn!) to contact their SO/roommate/whomever.

I think I recall that same MeCha thread...

I had to dig up a next-door neighbor's phone number on Facebook to call him to get him to drive me to the ER...he wasn't even my first choice, it's just that he's the only one who had his number in his profile.

Our office is opposite the HQ of one of the banks we deal with regularly. When I say 'opposite' I mean separated by a couple of hundred yards of dock.

One day one of the people I deal with there said they'd had a desk move and were now on the side facing our building. So later that day I had to email him about a case and I said that if he agreed with my findings, he was to go to the window and hold up two sheets of white A4 paper, one in each hand. If he disagreed, he was to hold up one.

It worked. I saw this little silhouetted stick figure in the window, holding up two sheets of paper :-)

I regularly used to exchange e-mails with the person sitting at the next desk if we wanted to discuss something privately but couldn't be bothered to find a spare meeting room. Not that unusual, I suspect, but still a little odd.

Not day job, but my brother and I used to ICQ each other while in the same house.

Sometimes my cow-orkers and I use IM to chat. They are 3 feet away.
