08 August 2008

Weekend plans? [More:]I'm fixin' to head out to COF-a-Que 2008, the event described by peeedro in the most recent DC-area meetup thread. Should be fun. What about you?
Cleaning, food shopping, chilling, perhaps a birthday celebration (not mine) in Chinatown on Saturday night.

Today:
Making bread. Research for a project. Tidying. Writing.

Saturday:
Turning 39, which I expect to take most of the day. Aging is hard work, ladies and gentlemen.

My sister and family arrive from Montana tomorrow morning! I'll spend the day with a squealing pile of nieces and nephews who've been awake most of the night.

We've been invited to an impromptu barbeque tomorrow night. We might make a late appearance; The Fella has to work, and I'm dining with family.

The Fella has been sneaking around trying to make a birthday cake without me noticing, which is a cute but quixotic notion; in our dollhouse-sized apartment, nothing goes unnoticed.

Sunday:
Oh, geez, nothing. Maybe laundry. But this week, our weekend extends to...

Monday:
Prepping the annual trivia contest for The Fella's newsletter. In the evening, a deferred birthday dinner with family.

OLYMPICS! There is NOTHING like watching the Olympics and sharing snarky comments about same with loved ones. That is all.

Tonight - ordering pizza and watching opening ceremonies

Tomorrow - waking up early and going to the springs if it doesn't rain. If it does rain I'll shop for the kids' school clothes. I haven't done this yet and it's hanging over my head. Maybe we'll go to the movies/dinner on Saturday night or have my sister over for dinner, beer, and cards.

Sunday - hanging with parents, hopefully we'll do some kayaking if the weather is good.

I'm doing a Magical Mystery Tour. It's sort of like a navigational scavenger hunt for motorcyclists. You get a sheet of directions without any place names. It says things like: "Go 3.2 miles until you see three green houses next to each other. If the number on the middle house is even, turn right. If it's odd, turn left. Go 5.7 miles until you see the brass weathercock..." You need sharp eyes, a knowledge of current events ("If the current Sec. of State is female, turn left. Else, turn right."), and an ability to follow directions ("#35. Cross off instructions 4 and 5. Did you remember to read the whole route sheet before taking off?").

It's my first time, so I'm expecting to get completely lost and have to open the rescue envelope. I've also selected to do the harder route (MHP = Massive, Hairy/Huge, Pendulous) since my bike is more off-road capable than most of my fellow riders'.

Next weekend is my gf's friend's wedding on Cape Cod. Then I get a couple of weeks off before my internet biker gang's annual Labor-Day-weekend assault on Canadia.

Cooking out. Farmers' Market!!! So excited to be able to go back to the big one at PSU, we've had other plans every recent Saturday. Out to see a band or two. And probably visiting a ghosttown, I feel like looking at a stagecoach house. And ever more packing.

I can't believe it's almost podelette time! Other people's pregnancies just go by so fast.

I'm going to see The New Pornographers on Saturday. I haven't been to a concert in 5 years. That is a sad statistic that I'm glad to be correcting.

Tonight we'll be ordering Chinese, watching the opening ceremonies and likely answering 50 billion China-related questions from the girl.

That Magical Mystery Tour sounds like fun, Eid! But I'm so bad at even explicit directions that there's no way I could do something like that. I'd get all lost and end up in Narnia or something.

Ha! I recall thinking the same thing recently about other people's Master's programs.

fast.

That is all.

Hopefully, nothing but cleaning the garage and generally kicking back. There's nothing else on the agenda for the weekend and I aim to keep it that way.

There's a simple way, and it involves you hopping on the back of my bike. What's life without a little adventure?

Tonight- watching opening ceremonies then black and white movies with the best friend. I was going to go to the museum today but I can't seem to tear myself away from the computer and I still haven't gotten my work done.
Tomorrow- friend's bday party in the park with her really irritating dog that barks too much, then yoga, then maybe out somewhere
Sunday- brunch with old friend then maybe free concert

Community garage sale wherein I get rid of tons of baby stuff - strollers, baby toys, playpen, books.

Then some other kid's birthday party with Younger Boy.

Sunday - rest. Screw the laundry.

OH! I forgot - I finally found my breadmaker's instruction booklet, so I may try my hand at strawberry jam.

I'm on call for work (bleeeeegh I can be called out anytime - it's unlikely, but still possible). I'm also working tomorrow (in the office, I have a supervisee who only works weekends and it's time for supervision. His job is mainly data entry so supervision is like 15 mins, but I have other stuff to do too).

I saw most of the opening ceremony today and it's fab!

I see that you have a choice to make.

I'd rather screw mygothlaundry on Saturday and then rest on Sunday.

I'll let myself out.

Is it really 6 more months until Valentine's again?

posted by Eideteker 08 August | 13:58
Dude, I'm cleaning the garage on Saturday. If you want to drive up on your motorcycle and lend a hand for an hour or two, we'll see if we can't work something out. ;-)

Is 'take it to email' the 21st C equivalent of 'get a room'? But awwwwww!

mgl, if I get really lost, that's not out of the question.

"WtF? How the hell did I end up in Fayetteville?" *opens rescue envelope* "This thing says I'm supposed to be somewhere in Maine! Aw, fuckit. How far is it to Asheville?"
posted by Eideteker 08 August | 14:21
"This thing says I'm supposed to be somewhere in Maine!

Oh! See? You are destined to come dress shopping with me!
posted by Elsa 08 August | 14:29
It's not out of the question. Like I said, I've never done one of these before, but it wouldn't surprise me if the route sheet said something like: "#22. Take Elsa dress shopping. If she only shows you overboob, turn right. If she shows some sideboob, turn left. If she shows any underboob, go straight."
posted by Eideteker 08 August | 14:37
Booze, queso, dinner with friends, games and packing.

It's on, Eideteker --- I'll see you sometime this weekend.

Going on a mini-tour with a friends' band. It was supposed to be Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal on Friday-Saturday-Sunday, but the Toronto show fell through. So, instead, it's the Babylon on Ottawa tomorrow night and L'Escriffe (or something like that) in Montreal on Sunday!

Be right back, Hon. I'm just gonna to hop on the back of this guy's motorcycle. Don't worry. It's cool. I met him on the internet. What? I dunno. I'm not exactly sure where we're going. It depends on whether the number on the middle house is even or odd. But there will probably be some dress shopping, too. Huh? No, silly--the dress is for Elsa. ELSA. She's from the internet, too. What are you not getting about all this?

Today: It's the 21st anniversary of my 21st birthday. Had to work, which was fine, as I got pampered by my friends! Ice cream cake! Later, I got pampered by my family. More cake!

Saturday: Work. But that's normal for me.

Sunday: Visit my brother's house to see his new kitchen (finally) and celebrate my birthday. More cake! Mom's bringing the traditional money cake, and I can't wait.

Friday: Morning show of Dark Knight (liked Ledger's performance in Brokeback much better), afternoon show of Patti Smith doc ( my friend Dan is from South Jersey too and extremely sensitive about it),renewed gym membership, ate lasagna without enough tomato sauce, Stooges concert (recap in other thread), Hunter Thompson doc midnight show.

Saturday: Laundry, finish making Maine plans, screenings at MOMA and Man on Wire.

Sunday, more movie glut, gym.

also doing my damndest not to shove my fist through a window....
