Now taking orders for Hawaiians interested in saving on shipping. California Bay Area --> Hilo (or Oahu).→[More:] I'm leaving this Sunday. It snuck up on me, or I'd have given you more notice!

Also- what's a good giftie to bring for a local whom I don't know at ALL except she's been so nice over email? Wine? Olive oil? Anything?

Heh, considering the restaurants and gift shops that cater to Hawaiians here in Vegas, processed meats like spam, vienna sausages and jerky seem fairly popular. Take this advice, though, with a grain of salt (or 800 mg sodium per serving).

I'll be in Honolulu at the end of next week and all of next weekend (ie, July 17-21)! I'm so excited!

I'll be in Honolulu the 19th and 20th so maybe it'll work out, muddgirl. Should we post it to metafilter?

I don't know if I want to commit, though- I might just want to wander around and maybe meet up for one beer's worth or something. I've never been there before.

The Red Road is something I missed when I went through there, but I wish I'd had done it. If you are indeed in Hilo, it's worth considering.

Also, Hilo Hatties, although it's tacky, gets a lot of local business, and they DO have some cool stuff.
