13 May 2008

3-point good day update [More:]

1. I had lunch out today with a woman who's leaving next week and although the restaurant does great steak sandwiches, fries, pizza, pasta and other naughtiness, I had goat's cheese salad, and for dessert instead of sticky toffee pudding and custard or chocolate mousse I had fruit salad, no cream. It was all very delicious and as a bonus I feel virtuous.

2. I mentioned the other day that those of us who work at home on odd days have concerns over our security if we have to phone people from home. We are hoping the powers that be will now revise this after one of our regular nutters turned up at our Chief Executive's house on Sunday evening, when he was not home, and left a letter with his teenage daughter, scaring the hell out of her at the same time.

3. I cleaned the car when I got home today. (Only the outside. I'll do the inside tomorrow.) I was worried, as I wondered if it was only the dirt that's holding the thing together, but it looks all nice and shiny now. I'm still the poor relation, car wise, in this street, but my 11-year-old Ford isn't a bad old thing, apart from a couple of small rust spots that have appeared in the last couple of years.
1. The coffee shop two houses away from me in my new neighborhood (Caffrodite *groan*) makes a good NF latte. Points!

2. My grandma called and everything between us is hunky-dory, and my dad didn't even see me at the memorial service, though I saw him as he stood and spoke. (He's going bald! Oh, I bet that makes him mad! He was a rather handsome blondie!) contraption and I are going BACK up there to visit with her and my uncle and cousin from Germany tomorrow and I'm happy!

3. I get my car out of the shop again and finally? today. Well, if it breaks down again, I'll have a backup, because my sainted aunt Janet is bequeathing me a Buick, for the love of all that is holy. I don't know what to do with such a boat, other than get it on in the capacious and velvety back seat! ;)

1. I have an interview today for a company that would be completely and utterly awesome to work for. And I feel pretty qualified and confident about it.

2. I can finally upgrade my website to a better server, something I've been trying to do for months but have been forced to wait repeatedly for various technical reasons.

3. The scale says I've lost five pounds in the past two weeks. YAY! I was just at the point in my exercise regime / diet changes where I was wondering why I was bothering, since nothing seems to be changing. Take that, apathy!

1. A cute engineer talked to me today! But I'm afraid he'll find me too boring, because my brain shuts down when I try to talk to him.

2. I am not freezing at the moment.

3. I read a great book about Dutch Jewish children who were hidden during World War II. It was great because I knew the story of Anne Frank, but not that of people who were worse off and I got a much better picture of what happened at that time and place.

1. I have been a cooking dynamo all week. Looking forward to sage biscuits for dinner. Will probably make more rosemary honey shortbreads. Will have to ride my bike to offset this. Stopped at the farmer's market at lunch. Will now buy a lotto ticket in hopes of being able to do nothing but cook, clean and play Bioshock all day.

2. Guy is back day after tomorrow. We're going to the Cure concert. Anyone know somewhere to eat/drink (real no-meat vegetarian, not midwest-poultry-and-fish vegetarian) in Rosemont or near O'Hare?

3. Cats are getting along really well, but Ban Kitty-Moon doesn't get that when we're all in the bed, we sleep, not chase each other.

1. The AC repairman just called and said the Big Broken Part Replacement came in a day early, and he'll be coming over after his scheduled appt's today to install it (instead of waiting till tomorrow)! Yay! Can I tip a repairman? Cause this guy's awesome! Yay air conditioning!

2. After much frustration and yelling and such, MuddDude and I finally finished wedding invitations last night, and they went in the mail today! Yay crossing things off a long to-do list!

3. No number 3 yet, but I'm sure it'll happen eventually.

1. I am having a good uneventful day. I should be sewing (I have a big project that I'm doing for a friend), but I'm procrastinating and spending too much time doing nothing.

2. Tonight is dog training class. Our instructor is a stickler. He has informed us, "I will know if you're not practicing. I can tell!" Yikes. That remark made me smile. Last week other volunteers at the obedience club were coming up to me and giving me tips. I don't know if it's because I suck or I'm approachable.

3. I found another bad song I used to love when I was 14. Love Touch by Rod Stewart! Come on baby, try me out.

1. All my summer clothes actually fit just fine. Some are even a little loose. Huh. Wow. Excellent!

2. The Gem Fest poster is looking extremely awesome and rockin' cool. plz oh plz do not be finding another sponsor so I have to add another logo oh plz plz tks .

3. I think it might just be possible that I get to go home all by myself after work and stay home all evening all alone and not have to go see anyone or be social or take care of anybody or anything and this is so amazingly great, you have no idea. Embarrassment of riches on the social life front recently. I should not complain. But I need some time to myself.

1. It looks like my fiendish money saving plan is working out better than I had hoped, which means I can splurge and preorder some books when I get home from work!

2. By the looks of things, I'll be able to have a finished map to put on the wall before I go on vacation at the end of the month! (I'm mapping the wall of microfilm at work to make it easier to find things and I started it in...oh yeah, February.)

3. I think I may have finally figured out what I'm going to do with myself for the three extra days of vacation that I have since my roommate can only get a sitter for the weekend. (I think I might just have to sit on a beach somewhere and drink fruity beverages and read trashy books. Oh yes, it will be glorious. As long as I bring enough sunblock.)

1. Beautiful weather for my bike ride to work this AM.
2. Just ate too much of a pretty good falafel pita.
3. I have an 87% cacao Dagoba bar waiting for me in one of my panniers.

1. Everyone has stopped puking! This is very good. But also very bad because I fear that it is now my turn to catch the bug and I am downright phobic about vomiting.

2. Got our invitation today for our friends wedding at one of the fancy schmanciest venues in Phila and it's black motherfuckin' tie. Dude, this shit does not impress any of us. It just makes us think that your bride-to-be is a high-maintenance nightmare.
Mr. rossi is in the wedding and I dread the hoops he is going to have to jump through in the next few months. But I'm actually looking forward to getting all dolled up Lovey Howell style. I may treat it as a costume party.

3. Mr. Baby is discovering summertime foods like ice cream and watermelon. There is nothing better than watching a tiny human taste something awesome for the first time. Nothing.

1. It's a nice day out
2. I got compliments on a dress that my father picked out for me (nice work dad!)
3. I confessed my laziness to my therapist and now I feel better.

1. Despite the insomnia, I'm so busy at work that I don't have time to fall asleep. This is so different from my old job.

2. I am actually answering the phones here and had a mostly decent conversation with one of the top Manhattan brokers about a listing that I kinda know stuff about. Yay! I know my stuff!

3. Um, no number three, because the rest of the day's been pretty bad. Oh, wait... it's SUNNY today!
posted by TrishaLynn 13 May | 14:46
1. The weather is actually acting like Spring today.

2. I am going to celebrate a friend's 30th birthday and hear some piano jazz at some fancy place at the Drake Hotel tonight.

3. After quite a bit of panic when our almost-but-not-quite-confirmed wedding photographer canceled on us, turns out there are still plenty of good ones available. Although they won't be as cheap as my friend's sister, they will be fine and maybe just maybe I'll get a picture of myself that I don't hate.

1. It's raining, so no work (bad), but that means I can stay home and clean the bomb crater so that it's all lovely and clean-smelling and somewhere I actually want to live.

2. Mrs. Uncle just got back from having her wisdom teeth out, so no solid food for her for a week. At her request, I'm making her orange sherbet ('Make it so it tastes like an orange creamsicle. Please? I like creamsicles.'). Uncle will be here later with more fruit (pineapple, lemon, watermelon) to turn into sherbet for her, which makes me happy. They've done so much for me (including giving me their old ice cream maker, which is seeing good use here), it's nice to return the favour. Plus, I get to sample all kinds of sherbet!

3. Friend coming to stay for a while, and will help me move, and possibly help me finish The Job That Never Ends and maybe even work with me on The Job That Might Make Me Money. His girlfriend (who I really like) coming to stay over the weekend. Another friend possibly camping in my yard for part or all of what is supposed to be a gloriously sunny long weekend. (For non-Canucks, Monday is Victoria Day, the day we celebrate the birthday of a dour imperialist old bat by blowing things up and drinking beer. Also known as May two-four, a reference to the approximate date and the amount of beer you're traditionally expected to consume.) An embarrassment of riches on the friend front. The only drawback is that both of the male friends are opinionated loud-talkers. One at a time I find it amusing (I've known them for years and have mastered the nod & smile, plus we're close enough that I can laugh at them when they're being ridiculous), but when they're both in the same room it's a shout-a-thon of duelling monologues. Okay, I'm not entirely looking forward to it, but I do love them both dearly. And friend 2 just bought a pontoon boat that he's eager to show off, so we can go boating. Yay. Wonder if I can borrow a crab trap?

1. Date went well, which is a total understatement. At some level I'm coming to grips with the fact that I just thought I'd never have dates like this again in my life. It's weird retooling that.
2. Just gave the first of two presentations to a crowd of appreciative librarians and felt smart and competent.
3. Feeling pretty well prepped for the talk tomorrow, than no more talks for over a week.

3. The Quicken API is starting to bend under my will.

1. Gomichild went into the clinic today when her waters leaked and there's no update (AARGH!!!!)

2. Wonderful, wonderful weekend that included the Radio 1 thing in Maidstone, (the Hoosiers and Paramour were the highlights for me).

3. both daughter and son are doing important exams, she's doing her school leaving (the IB) and he's doing his 11+s or SATs. I got her a job today for the rest of the summer as a student counsellor for one of the English language schools in Dublin so in 3 weeks she will be going away and from there to University. I'm feeling a mixture of pride and tredidation!

1. My students were actually pretty cooperative today. No yelling, no cursing, no fighting, thank goodness. Some interesting discussions re Hurston's Their Eyes Were Watching God, one of my all-time favorite books. (My warm-up question: Can you learn to love someone?)

2. Free pizza at our union meeting today. Yay free pizza!

3. Several children and puppies greeted me with waves from strollers and sniffs from leashes, respectively, on my way home. Made me smile.

(I do have heartburn from the pizza, though -- it's not in my nature to be entirely positive.)

Wilder - that's how both of mine came into the world - leaking waters! Oooo Gomichild, maybe todays the day! And didn't someone call Tuesday?

1. I love everyone here. I have good news for those following Mr. V's cancer: the things the doctor saw on the MRI last week are blood vessels!!! Not more metastacies!!!!! Yay for GREAT news!!!

2. I shopped today, and had a lovely day off.

3. Got a new tattoo. It's another Snoopy on my ankle, to go with the other two. Pictures at a later date!

Again, thanks for all the well wishes from all of you. I couldn't ask for better friends. And here's wishing a healthy delivery for gomichild!

1. Today is the last of one of the development courses I've been doing here at work, and I'm glad it's over because my coursemates were really frustrating to work with.
2. I sent my dad a question about concrete and he replied with this long, detailed explanation which, I think, must have made him feel pretty smart.
3. Home in less than a month!
