List of social-justice-ish holiday shopping sites [More:]Someone sent me this, so I thought I'd share: Places to shop for holiday gifts that aim to make a bit of a difference.

_______________________________
Be unconventional and even subversive this year by creating a new type of demand in the global market: a demand for products that are fairly traded and benefit the billions of people in our world that are in poverty. Or, refuse to buy material things at all and give gifts in the form of donations that will change someone's life.

Didn't Vox bite it from Filepile?

What is this Vox of which you speak?

I thought [this is good] started at MeFi. It's certainly been on MeFi for years, definitely predating Vox. Here's Plutor in AskMe on the origins...

Great list, thanks for posting it. I'll have a look through all the sites tomorrow.

The Hunger Site has a store. I've bought stuff and they're reliable. They have prayer flags, which, now that I think about it, might be a nifty gift for my brother.

Aaaaand theora beat me to referencing The Hunger Site. If you look at the top you can see the links to the other sites associated with THS (breast cancer, child literacy, etc.). Each one donates to a cause in a different way (mammograms, books, etc.).

"I was at the freak show one time and I saw these Siamese elephants." || Now this is a social networking site I could get behind.
