Do you eat the peel of a Kiwi fruit? [More:]I eat them peel and all. For me it is the fruit equivalent of eating a mouse. So, I just imagine I'm an owl or something and eat them whole.
I slice it into slices and eat it, peel and all. Some people don't eat the peel huh?

After that Norelco "Body Shaver" advertisement, I don't think I could possibly eat them unpeeled.

I recently discovered that I now can't eat them at all.

But before the burning, itching reactions began I would always peel them or scoop out the insides with a spoon. You people are strange. Yuckies.

I love the asker's response to the "best answer" - "I always like to 'pole the people.' "

Dirty.

I eat 'em like gomichild (used to). The peel is yicky and scratchy.

I eat them with a grapefruit spoon, or in the parlance of Lewis Carrol, a "runcible" spoon. Then I toss the peel. In the general direction of eekacat and jessamyn.

I eat the peel.

Because I'm a FREAK.

No, the peel is ick.

Eat the skin of a Chinese Gooseberry Kiwifruit? You must be nuts - that's disgusting.

I've never eaten a Kiwi fruit.

It never even occurred to me to eat the peel. Disgusting.

My boyfriend has a hilarious technique. He cuts off the tip from the narrow end of a kiwi, and then through a combination of sucking/squeezing eats all the innards through the hole. He might eat 4 or 5 kiwi at once, leaving all these wrinkled brown things. He calls it 'necrotizing'. And yes, I do believe he now relishes it because I think it bizarre.

His (and by default my) other favourite bizarro fruit eating technique is to cut a watermelon in half and just go at with a big spoon. We used to eat papayas this way when we were backpacking in India and had two spoons, and one knife between us. It was a bit tidier on a bus to let all the juices pool in the centre of the fruit.

No.

In theory I eat the peel too, but then my tongue gets all weird and scratchy after about one kiwi. So then I resort to a spoon and discarding the peels.

Cinnamon is very very allergic to kiwi, so I don't get them very often anymore. But I never ate the skin.

Also,
For me it is the fruit equivalent of eating a mouse. So, I just imagine I'm an owl or something and eat them whole.

You mean you don't imagine you're a cat?

I can eat kiwi flesh (as it were) but the peel does funny things to my hands (burning, itching) so I don't want to put it inside my body.

dismas - yes, I'm keeping my bf! I think his warranty is expired, so the store wouldn't take him back anyway. (11 years and counting...)

youngergirl - that's a hilarious graphic!

Until a couple years ago, I never knew you could eat the peel. A friend of mine and I were in my kitchen, and as we were talking, he casually grabbed a kiwi, washed it, and bit into it. I was shocked, until he made me try it. I gingerly did so, and was pleasantly surprised. You'd think that the fuzz would be too fuzzy, but it's not, and I enjoy the tartness of the skin. So now I just slice and eat.

For those of you who think it's disgusting, don't knock it till you try it!

Kiwi fruit taste funny to me. Like a metalic golden delicious apple aftertaste. As a result I do not eat them unless accompanied by other fruit. I had not previously been aware that eating the skin were an option. I am not sure that it will improve the taste for me.

I never eat the peel. I have a fabulous peeler I bought at Sur La Table a few years ago which peels kiwis with barely any effort. Why would anyone like to eat the peel? It's disgusting.

typewriter: in my drinking days, I once went to a summer party where someone had injected a watermelon with vodka (lots of it) and put it in the fridge until it was icy cold. Best. Watermelon. Ever.

I don't remember where I first saw that cartoon, but it's one of my favorites.

I doubt I'll eat the peel when I finally try one. I can't even eat peach peels. *gag*
