Using Flickr to fix your photos: Is there a copyright issue here?[More:]
So these guys have written this algorithm that searches Flickr photos to find bits and pieces for covering up unwanted items in your photo.
I have a "no derivative works" creative commons license on all my photos. I wonder if this algorithm takes that into consideration. I don't want bits and pieces of my pictures being used to fix your bad holiday snap with the thumb in front of Mount Rushmore.
There's more here. I honestly haven't read the entire brief to find out if they are taking copyrights into account in running their algorithm, so I apologize if that is the case.

I don't think their lawyers would allow them to cull from images that are protected. Hello lawsuit!

I don't have the time to read the whole paper right now, but the BBC article says it searches 2.4 million Flickr images and I got to believe they are taking a small subset of CC images on Flickr.
