- Concurrent consideration of the AR and stability metrics for clustering permits optimization of group count and cutoff calculation. AR maximization can sometimes lead to isolation of high-noise data pools in separate clusters; the stability check prevents this process and allows acquisition of stable cutoffs only. Formal concurrent maximization of these two metrics requires heuristically defined metrics weights combined with arbitrarily selected function structures. To eliminate this uncertainty, the clustering algorithm uses the AR maximization procedure only and verifies the achievement of a certain level of stability.

- Yesterday, when Mom dragged me into that enormous crowded outlet store full of meandering tourists, who blithely stomped this way and that, leaving their shopping carts blocking the aisles and wandered off. But in this hellish grasping thoughtless crowd I saw one woman who, spotting something she wanted, quietly pulled her cart tightly over to one side, edging it as far out of the flow of traffic as possible before she stepped away. That one lady --- I like her.

- and, yeah, nooners for sure.

- and Jodie Foster.

- and, given the chance, the last two taken together. Sure.

Yo, chuckdarwin, have you ever used Snake Oil Strings? They're more expensive, but last much longer; they keep their ring for several months. If you break strings a lot or use ultra-lights, they may not be for you, but I love 'em (I usually play D'Add .011-.050's on my P-90 equipped Music Man Axis Sport, but Snake Oil have .011-.048's that krang raunk kun-kun brrrrang! like a dream). They last thrice as long at twice the price. Unless you use Webstrings, which are probably from the same factory as D'Addarios, but cost just $2.49 per set if you get two dozen.

Thanks for that, mygothlaundry! Cool tune.

Yo, chuckdarwin, have you ever used Snake Oil Strings? They're more expensive, but last much longer; they keep their ring for several months.

Like elixir or d'add exp? Yeah, I dig coated strings. I worked at a music store for ten years, so... I tried a lot of stuff. Not those exact ones, though. I don't think I can get them in the UK over the net.

I play 12s or 13s and still manage to break the G every time. I made it through two crazy sets last night, and didn't break one, but my friend Vo's new guitar (an expensive Takamine with cooltube tech) was making mine sound too small and flimsy :-(
posted by chuckdarwin 13 July | 15:30
Ah, too bad they don't ship to UK. They're actually not coated; they just use better wire and wind it to a higher spec. They're awesome, Snake Oils.

12s or 13s, you on acoustic? Them's some manly fuckin' strings, hoss!
posted by Hugh Janus 13 July | 15:41
Yeah, I play unplugged a lot (we have a lot of acoustic sessions) so I need to be loud. I was plugged in last night... but I'm getting to the point now where I'd almost rather prefer to be mic'ed up.

To be fair, I also play a Tele with 10s and a Godin with 10s.
posted by chuckdarwin 13 July | 15:50
Ahhh, I see. 12 or 13 on an electric would take steel claws to bend, maybe even to fret. The Axis Sport hardtail I play is as if Leo Fender took the Tele and evolved it, made it a little smaller and easier to play, and then stuck big growly Townsendy p-90s on for a rush.

Dynamics are so key; I hate playing too loud, or having to compete with another guitarist. I've often wished for dynamic interplay between myself and another guitarist, but usually I just get jangles. Unless, of course, I'm playing with my brother, with whom I played violin duets of all sorts as a kid. We play well together.

Those Godins are nice; handmade, right? You gots good taste in instermints, sah!

It looks like the guitar Eddie Van Halen used to play...

That's the end-all-be-all of music: finding the right partner.

Cheers! I really need to get some sort of acoustic guitar that's suitable for me... something loud, yet easy to play. An old Gibson?
