OMG green beans! I do realize that all I do around here lately is post recipes that I've gotten elsewhere, but I love sharing good food with people I like, so consider this a virtual dinner party. I made Garlic Green Beans with Manchego last night, [More:]accompanied by medium-rare grass-fed NY steaks, yukon gold potatoes roasted with rosemary and garlic, and an heirloom tomato salad that ikkyu constructed, and the whole meal was to-die-for and I wish you all had been there.

But the green beans were my favorite part, and the preparation is great for the end-of-the-season beans we're getting now. I would never have thought of adding lime to green beans but it was fabulous. I made the entire recipe for the two of us, and finished off the leftovers for breakfast this morning. Yay, garlic breath!
Your meal sounds divine. I might have to hunt for the Manchego for this one.

That sounds amazing! I never would have thought to add lime either, but it sounds heavenly. And I just happen to have all of the ingredients on hand except the cheese.

Another orgasmic combination you might not think of on your own is zucchini with nutmeg. Sooo good. Just sliced, sauteed zucchini, with salt, pepper, butter, and nutmeg. A great side dish.

Mmm, nutmeg. I use it all the time, on spinach, in quiche and fritatta and custards, with greens of all descriptions and potatoes and sweet potatoes. Somehow I ended up with two glass jars filled with whole nutmegs, which I assumed would be a lifetime supply. Imagine my surprise this week to realize I'm down to my last little knob of nutmeg.

occhiblu, I love to see the recipes you post here; please don't dream of stopping!

Sounds yummy. I've been tryin' to eat more veggies lately. I love 'em, I'm just lazy. I did make asparagus sauteed with garlic and butter last night, though (Jon even ate it), to go with our roasted "beer butt" chicken, along with pasta with spicy pesto (no recipe... I tend to shake into the pot whatever I have on hand). What a great way to roast a chicken, atop a tall boy (of Bud, that is). I made a rub out of Lawry's, pepper, onion powder, thyme, basil, paprika, and fresh minced garlic. Came out delicious. (Many thanks to Hugh Janus for assistance in removing chickens from cans and cuttin' up of said chickens. He earned his supper. : )

Nutmeg zucchini sounds yummy, too... have to try that.

i was thinking of doing up a themed party menu of:

mutilated monkey meat-- pate? meatishloaf?
little dirty birdie feet-- not twiglets
french fried eyeballs sitting in a pool of blood-- breaded mushrooms in marinara?

ham sandwich pus on top-- ham and brie open brunschetta?
monkey eyeballs-- deviled eggs? olives stuffed in cheese balls?
camel snot-- baba ganoosh?
doggie doo doo chopped in two-- chocolate truffles?

Still working on it.

I love that no matter how hard they try, no one can take a pretty picture of boudin. This cracks me up.

That is so funny. i want to encase it in plastic and use it as a centerpiece.

I wasn't even hungry a minute ago, and now I want boudin.

We made the green bean dish tonight, and can attest to the yumminess factor.

Thanks! It was pretty tasty, too. In addition to the green beans we had grilled chicken with a (semi-spicy) rub, oven-fried potatoes, and a nice Willamette Valley pinot gris. Plus, it's always a treat for me to eat out on our deck, since I don't get to do so during the week.
