OK, so I didn't get to see any fireworks this year, but mygothlaundry's awesome fireworks photos just about make up for it.
Vegas axed its "Red, White and Boom" spectacular this year because the casinos, who foot the bill, decided that fireworks displays do not have the draw that they once did. From what I can read between the lines, the high rollers would rather continue their table play than go out to watch the rockets' red glare.
We hit our neighborhood amateur anarchic illegal dangerous show, as we've done in the past. It was, as usual, fantastic, and we could just barely see the big show on the Mall in the distance. My main contribution was a sparkler bomb made of 576 sparklers wired together to all go off at once--you could feel the heat of them from 30 feet away. That certainly got everyone's attention.
I'm not a huge fan of fireworks, being a cat owner (cat + fireworks = huge DO NOT WANT), but I must say that the ones I saw at Niagara Falls on 4 July two years ago were pretty damn special.
Thanks! The really good ones in that set, though, are from last year. This year I didn't get as close and the street lights are included. Which I like, since they're weirder. Still, they were great! Asheville does good fireworks.
First year I have not went to a fireworks display. Or did anything at all really. Well I've been cutting down/throwing away a lot of flowers and shrubs that I spent a fortune on, but that is about all I have done over the holiday.
Ooooh I like this one. No fireworks viewing at the chewie's this year - we were spoiled rotten by the $7000 show provided for us on top a big hill in an ancient fort on St kitt's last october. Hard to beat being about 200' from the launch area and having them directly over your head.
