So the Easter Bunny is in the vintage Pixar car business now. For months, my four year-old nephew's been after me to acquire a hood for Mater, the junkyard pickup from the movie Cars.[More:]

I was on the phone with him today, and after he told me all about King's run-ins with Chick Hicks, and how dirty King got and how his wheels wouldn't work right, he said, "You'll never guess what I got for Easter."

"Oh no?"

"Have you found a hood for Mater yet?" he asked me.

"No, but you know, it's tough to find specific parts for old cars like that."

"Well, the Easter Bunny brought me a blue Mater, because he was blue when he was young, and guess what? He has a hood. So now I have two Maters, one with a hood and one without one."

"That's terrific," I said. "What do you think happened to his hood between when he was young and when he got old?"

"I don't know, maybe when cars get old, sometimes their hoods just fall off. Like hair."

Like hair.
My 3 1/2 year-old grandson wanted to go play with the older kids next door when we were over recently. His folks wouldn't let him go over since it was late and we were there, so he kept going out by the back fence to listen to them play. At one point he came back in and had the following conversation with my wife:

"Grandma - I have to go over to Jeremy's house to play."

"I don't think you're supposed to go over there right now."

"I have to."

"Maybe you can just talk to them over the fence?"

"It's too big. You have to help me."

For some reason, my wife decided to get whimsical.

"Can you fly over the fence?"

He perks up.

"I'll go check!"

He runs off to the back yard. We go back to visiting.

A couple of minutes later he comes back and reports earnestly:

"Nope. I can't fly."

Does he have the DVD, where it shows Mater finding his hood, and then dropping it into the Grand Canyon again? My 3-year-old son watches that thing over and over. We've probably seen it 50 times. An hour ago we were standing on Kyoto's main street when a Porsche came by and he yelled out, "Sally!"

I have the hugest crush on Hugh's nephew.

Flo's a grandpa? Awesome!

I don't get how kids can see the same movie sooo many times, usually one right after the other. Gah! My second oldest niece was like that with Hook.

Yeah, it caught my attention too, because, ummmmm, I thought IRFH was about 28 years old. Why did I think that?

I thought IRFH was about 28 years old

I'm timeless.

Actually, I'm 43. Still young for a grandpa, but I married into my family (almost 22 years ago).
