I've been drinking Snapperhead IPA today. It says it's "all malt" which I guess means no hops. It tastes... interesting. Complements Nutter Butters well.
There is a minimum amount of hops required to be in beer legally in the USA (or even malt beverages like Zima for that matter). What mrmoonpie said. Extending the logic used in the post it must mean there's no water either. So you're eating dry grape nuts...
I like the hoppyhoppy India Pale Ales in the summertime. Stone Brewery makes a grand one. Winter for me is more a time for lagers and heavy ales and stouts. Chocolate stout. Mmmm.
But Rogue Chipotle goes well whenever you're in the mood, regardless of season. And Rogue Dead Guy... well, have a few then have a conversation with the skeleton on the label. Good times. Ol' Dead Guy makes for brilliant company.
I had Bass pale ale with wheat thins and peanutbutter for breakfast the other day.
Bass kicks me on my ass for no apparent reason. Worst. Hangover. Almost Evar. Now Harp and Guinness, I can drink all night. Weird: Racist stomach in an otherwise politically correct person.
BtGoG, you must surely have tried Deuchar's IPA. If not, you ought to. Any beer from the Caledonian Brewery is great. They probably all come in bottles now, but if you can get one on draught from a pub that knows how to look after its beer, they are heaven in a glass. I don't know any pubs in Dundee, but Edinburgh is chock full of great pubs selling excellent beer. (Glasgow has one or two also).
Weirdly, a brewery in India is planning to start making an Indian India Pale Ale and shipping it by boat to the UK, reversing the journey the beer used to make in the 18th Century.
oh, and regarding shane's comment about IPAs being hoppy as heck... The original IPA beers were beers that were transported to India from England to "support the troops" as it were. Additional hops were added to the beer so it would last the journey. Hops were originally added to beer for their preservative character rather than for their flavor. Turns out we like the floral bitterness that hops provide beer, and it is the major flavoring that has remained in beer which was traditionally a flavored beverage, and we are just relearning the joys of that.
Beer reviews would be a great way to get free beer.
