Things seemed to be going great; we were getting along just fine, learning interesting things about one another, really enjoying keeping company together, and then, out of the blue, BANG! Colonialism question that I'm having a hard time quite articulating: I was inwardly groaning this morning because I have to write up a history of Cuba, and it's getting to the point where it's just depressing to write histories of countries where Europeans came in, destroyed the native populations, and screwed over the country badly enough over the next few hundred years that they're having a hard time getting a fair shake now. Ask MeCha Redux: What is the fewest number of pixels (height by width as well as colors in the pallette) required to create a photorealistic image of a human face, allowing for other elements in the image like setting, background and/or objects associated with that person? America's Greatest Rock'n'Roll Band? I don't have much to say about Aerosmith (though I daydreamed recently about writing an essay about the folkloric aspects of Run-DMC's accounts of recording 'Walk This Way'), but now I'm thinking about who America's Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Band is. A post for 3 question (and/or 3 answer) comments . . . Yours should probably be shorter than mine, which are as follows:
1. What should be starting salary for the person promoted to coordinating all shipping/receiving for a multi-million dollar company, and what should s/he ask for if s/he won't do it for less than 32K/yr?
2. This Photo Friday is evidently Trees, but followed next week by Femme Fatales (and hommes)?

Sad single man I was doing my grocery shopping yesterday when I noticed that the man behind me in the checkout was buying somewhere between 30 to 40 frozen dinners, half a dozen 4-packs of puddings in a cup, three or four family-size bags of chocolate bars, many boxes of those breakfast cereal bars, and other such processed crap, all in multiples. I bagged up my fresh chicken breasts and strawberries and milk and so forth slowly so I could try to count how many frozen dinners he was buying. I couldn't. And let's just say, the man looked like he ate that way. Ew. Being single is no reason not to live like a human being.

Anyone know this movie? I'm trying to remember the name of a movie. The plot, as far as I can tell, revolved around a couple of state or federal agents that were sent to a town out west to convince the residents to vacate the land so the government could divert water into the valley. Released in the last few years. I kept thinking that William H. Macy was in it, but I'm not recognizing the name in his IMDB listing. I'm pretty sure the name of the film is a single word. Grazie.

The RIAA is trying to kill Radio MeCha Specifically, Music Exchange, an org set up under the DMCA by the RIAA labels and some non-RIAA labels, has 'negotiated' a royalty rate with the Copyright Royalty Board that would cost most internet broadcasters more money than they can possibly make. How does this effect our little occasional broadcasts on LoudCity? "For noncommercial webcasters, the fee will be $500 per channel, for up to 159,140 ATH (aggregate tuning hours) per month." If Radio MeCha is defined as a 'channel', we're screwed. And it's retroactive to the beginning of 2006. If LoudCity is considered a single 'channel', they may be put out of business by the retro charges, but they'll definitely have to jack up the cost to us. Just a little something to brighten up your Saturday Night.
