Whats on your run-off groove?? and who is writing all those funny little words on our LPs anyway?[More:]as seen on the little black band, just outside the label, I always wondered about those funny phrases. For example: Screaming Trees, Even if and Especially When, s/t, 1987, a side says "static pants and cheshire cats" b side says "pea vines and railway lines."

Pull out your LPs... what do they say?
let me be the first (of many) to say: "What are LPs?"

three come to mind:

"strawberry" (led zeppelin, "in through the out door")
"i used to have secrets. i couldn't give them away!" (jane's addiction's first lp, i think)
"phil + ronnie" (the beatles, "let it be" - at least the pressing i have has that inscription...)

I remember that one of the later Clash albums, I think Sandinista, said, "In space, no one can hear you clash."

The second record of Cabaret Voltaire's The Living Legends has "where is the Third Mantra?" written on it, a reference to the album Three Mantras, which only has two tracks.

Side 6 of Carla Bley's Escalator Over the Hill ends in a locking groove of a humming choir. Technically this means the record never ends as a locking groove just makes the record go around in the same circle forever.

A few of many I have...

Joy Division (Facus2)- 'Atmosphere/She's Lost Control' 12" A & B side "But where have they been"

Coil 'Scatology' LP (Force & Form/K.422)- A side "The hills are alive". B side "I am perplexed"

Throbbing Gristle's '2nd Annual Report' - A side nothing. B side "Assume power focus". Fetish records release - I still have the inserts, too!

CRASS's 'Penis Envy' (CRASS Records)- A side "In his hands he has destruction, you've heard it all before". B side "In her hands she has seduction: make love, not war"

Locked groove? I've got Killing Joke's 'Almost Red' EP (Island/EMI)- the final song, Turn to Red ends in a locked groove. red red red, red red red...

...actually, I think my Alien Sex Fiend 'R.I.P./New Christian Mu(sic)' 10" (yes, ten inch!! remember those?) has a locked groove on it too.

"Whats on your run-off groove??" I think it's peanut butter. I just don't take care of my things sometimes.
