So I got bored... →[More:]...and angsty and self-pitying last night, and posted a personal ad on craigslist. I tried to make make myself sound as irresponsible as I actually am (which is pretty damn irresponsible, fyi), but still, almost all of the responses were from women in their 40's with multiple children. I have nothing against women in their 40's with multiple children.

Seriously.

But I would be a terrible match for them, what with my no job and my drinking myself into a near-stupor most nights. Is that just who reads the personal ads on craigslist? Any of you folks ever use it?

Have you tried responding to the ads of women you're interested in? Women generally seek out and respond to ads less because they usually don't have to- men write to them based on their ads.

TPS have you ever posted a personal on CL? I'm sure you have, but...

I once posted a *platonic* ad (seriously!) to see if anyone was interested in playing boardgames. Silly me I posted a photo and I got well over three hundred responses, some of which make me shudder to think about.

I did find some cool folks to play boardgames with, tho - which also connected me with the crazy group of friends I do the Denver Cruise with, so it wasn't entirely bad. Overall I like CL, however I do have to say that:

This and the experiences of my girlfriends who HAVE posted W4M ads on CL makes me think that the women on CL are in somewhat of a, err.... 'seller's market' so to speak. What I'm getting at is that, indeed, dersins can respond to women's ads. I would caution him tho that he might have to really raise his game to cut thru the signal-to-noise ratio.

I mean there are apparently trolls on CL who literally auto-respond to EVERY ad, rant, comment, missed connexion, etc... that can be identified as posted by a woman. Over the past five years, I've discovered at least four of these types on the Denver board alone. And Denver is nowhere near as busy as some of the big metro area CL boards.

Just sayin.

I tried the portland.craigslist dating thing and met some nice girls that things just didn't work out with. However, one odd woman sent me an email claiming to be 28, single, and in Portland, when she was, in fact, 38 with a 15 year old truant son living in Oregon City. So, uhm, keep at it and collect some new stories to tell.
