Looks Like You Win I'm In Again →[More:]I wasn't going to, but I can't resist the enormous energy around the project this year. The project was local last year, but this year has opened up worldwide - anyone, anywhere, can enter. Participants this year come from seven continents -- yes, including one songwriter
cooling it down at McMurdo Ice Station in Antarctica. NPR's
Bob Boilen is in. There are
a dozen or so MeFites aboard, including a coupla bunnies. And it's not too late to sign up! I hope the musicicianish folks among you will join in the fun.
So I'm casting about for a concept or seed idea, and the closest thing I have so far is to do the record of all Honky Tonk Torch Songs. The first two starts I have fit this sound, so maybe I'll channel my inner Kitty Wells and see what happens. My only concern is that the result might be a little silly. Another thought was to take a look around and find ten really awesome women of early country (some Carters, Kitty, Rose Maddox, Aunt Molly Jackson...) and do a song related to each of them. Dunno, dunno. I don't feel as creatively inspired as I did last year, but that's all the more reason to do it, I suspect.
So I'll be seeking your inspiration as we go along. It was so much fun sharing the project here last year - looking forward to doing it again. You should, too.
