Trying to remember the name of a cartoonist. The cartoonist is female, often featured in The New Yorker. From what I can remember the cartoon is usually done in a 3, 6, or 9 block format on one page and is in color. One of the recurring characters is a female with big, frizzy hair. Humorous observations on everyday life is the main theme of the cartoon. Often times the main character is embarrassed.[More:]

I haven't read the New Yorker in years, so I can't search there, at least not now. I remembered this cartoonist because one of her cartoons was in another magazine I had, which is since gone. I am eager to know the cartoonist's name because she came out with a new book and I want to buy it.

Thanks all.
Oops, I didn't do the more inside thingy. Sorry!

Roz Chast is wonderful. . .she credits MK Brown, from the old National Lampoon, as an inspiration.

I had it after "New Yorker". ;-)

Clearly you do not know of the Cartoon Bank. (Roz Chast collection.) You can put 'em on a t-shirt, order a calendar, etc. Chast's stuff isn't easily read in the thumbnails, though (a lot of the other cartoonists are).

Here's one of my favorite cartoons ever. Not because of the inherent humor, but because people who never lived in New York don't get it.

Thanks stilcho for linking to the Cartoon Bank. Very neat.

Now you have to explain the Chinese takeout menu cartoon. I've never lived in New York.

Re: Chinese takeout menu - is it because apartments are inundated with them? Here in San Antonio, my apartment gets 6 takeout/delivery menus per week, shoved under the door/hung on the doorknob, etc.

muddgirl, yes, that's what I thought stilicho meant too. I think you get flyers in other cities too, but the sheer volume I find at my doorstep here in NY is amazing.
