Which one of you was it? Eh? Clearly it was either dodgy, or seanyboy?
dude, I don't think all the members of this site combined have that much money.

Perhaps you are just trying to divert our attention jon? Dumbco provide a sweet Christmas bonus you haven't mentioned? Hmmm?

heh.

I was unaware of this till danostuporstar posted about it the other day... what an incredible find.

I wonder if that "digital backup" will ever get a commercial release.

*crosses fingers*

I spent my last twelve grand on a Chumbawumba remix

Well, Urinal Talker could definitely afford it. Maybe he's been following my internet usage and chose that name to fuck with me. In which case, he's probably also hired a batallion of dwarf ninjas to assassinate me while I eat a slice of pizza.

Could have been WolfDaddy.

I never got the impression that Wolfie was rich or into the Velvets.

This reminds me, many years ago I found a CD (of sketchy origins) that has several of Lou Reed's songs from when he was part of a team cranking out singles for Pickwick Records. (I think he met John Cale at that job.) I know it has "The Ostrich," "Sneaky Pete," and "I've Got A Tiger In My Tank" on it.

If anyone's interested, I'll post some of those tracks later on this week.

Yeah - And I spent the last $20,000 I had on a rare green pressing of "I wish I could Fly" by Orville.

Today's Fact: Alice Nutter of Chumbawumba fame used to live in the local town of Hebden Bridge.

BoringPostcards: the MeFi post had a link to all the tracks. I grabbed it, as did many others, I'm sure. If you can't find it elsewhere, email me and I'll get you a copy.

Was that "Only In America" from Arf! Arf! Records? I have that, plus mp3's of 'Sneaky Pete' and I think 'The Ostrich'

It's odd that the yahoo article just skips right over Sterling Morrison.

BP, I'd *love* to hear "The Ostrich" (or any of them, but especially that one since Kurt Loder mentions it on the liner notes for VU (my first exposure to the band)).

felix, what would be nice about a commercial release is, perhaps, some of the crackling present on the zipfile would be gone.

felix, thank you! I should have looked at the original MeFi post, I guess.

jon, the CD is called "A Young Person's Guide To The Velvet Underground," and is on some Italian label I think. There's some weird stuff on there: studio chatter, those Pickwick songs, and versions of VU songs from who knows where.

dano, I'll dig the CD out and post those.

They think it's someone named Oscar, and the bidding was bogus.

See blog post here.

Oh, man, that sucks. And I agree with the comments that they should get Sotheby's or some other reputable auction house involved.

I have Metal Machine Music on 8-Track. I wonder if that's worth anything.
