Van Halen 2006 - Eddie's son Wolfgang has officially been named the new bassist in the band.
If anyone really cares...

I was so disappointed when the rumors about them doing a season of Rock Star proved untrue. Eddie's supposedly such a dick--it would have made for great TV.

I had no idea MA left the band, though. What was behind that, I wonder?

Every weird move like this makes my memories of 'Ain't Talkin' Bout Love' and 'Unchained' tarnish just a little more.

No shit. God, every time this band makes a headline these days, it's stranger than the last. They used to be awesome. Paging Triode....

There was an article/intervew about this on metal sludge a couple of weeks ago. IIRC there's a tour but no new album (which, on the basis of the new tracks on their last best of, is a really good thing). But, yeah, who cares?

Van Halen is still around? Wow. Whodda thought it.

I might dust off some mp3s from the 80's and reminisce from when they rocked. Some Panama or Jump anyone?

Panama is the greatest rock video of all time. that is all.

Jump is still an awesome track - I've never got tired of it.

Wikipedia seems to indicate that MA is playing with Hagar now.

Seems Wolfgang will only be able to play on the LP as he is too young to do the tour. At least that is what I read.

Hmm, most likely with Wolfgang in the band, they will pretty much ignore (or pay the minimum of lipservice to) previous Van Halen songs and just take the whole thing in a new, more instrumental, direction. Hell, Eddie's voice is as good as Satriani's or Vai's.

I still remember the day in the summer 1985, at summer camp on Lake George in upstate NY. It would have been July, I think. We were playing at the tetherball court when some kid said he had just gotten a letter from home, and his big brother had written that Van Halen had broken up.

Most people can tell you where they were when Kennedy was shot, or when the Challenger blew up. For me, it's the day that I head about the end of Van Halen. It was a dark day, let me tell you. (And no, Van Hagar does not count, and never will)

I dunno what Michael Anthony is doing for his day job, but he's been hanging around with The Atomic Punks lately too.
