If you live in a city where "Shortbus" is playing . . . →[More:] . . then you really owe it to yourself to see this film. It's one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. A lot of the hype surrounding this film focuses on the explicit sex scenes, which are definitely there, but not quite the point. The director used sexual imagery to talk about love and loneliness and human connection.

I left the theater with my eyes tearing up and my heart pounding in my chest.

(It ends with a really cool musical number, too.)

I love movies that end with musical numbers! Of course, I love movies that begin, middle AND end with musical numbers most of all.

Nope. The title "Shortbus" refers to a sex club where much of the movie takes place. Many of the characters in the movie have serious problems connecting with other people. There's a dominatrix who's never had a real relationship. There's a sex therapist who's never had a real orgasm. I think the title refers to the ways in which the characters (like many of us) are emotionally . . . challenged.

I was supposed to see it during TIFF, but actually just finally managed to see it last night...and I agree, it was awesome.

As a small aside, I will note that my date to said picture stayed for breakfast this morning...
