I love this recipe for beet greens that I've made for dinner tonight, and even though it's not much like how it was supposed to turn out, it's going really well with rice noodles.

I love the first coffee of the day. Nothing tastes better.

Lee Van Cleef. In many movies, but particularly "It Conquered the World." Also, all the lamps in the first 3rd of that film. So many lamps, in the foreground, obscuring the action... You can criticize a lot of movies for a lot of reasons, but "too many fucking lamps" is a complaint that only one movie can claim, and it's this one.

I hate white chocolate. It's not chocolate, it's some kind of sugary confectionary that doesn't taste like chocolate. Chocolate is brown. Very dark brown. As Hugh Janus's newphew would say: "It's the law".

1. finally having a kitchen to cook in.
2. actually buying LL Bean gumshoes in the LL Bean store in Maine.
3. trying new microbrews, many made right here in Portsmouth.
4. gaining the trust of Miko's cat, Sadie (who's gone from a howling yowling drama queen to coming up to me this morning and nuzzling my back in bed)
5. oversharing on public internet forums.
