28 July 2006

We've been waiting and hoping for this moment since 1979. Jon finally hooked up with Liz, Garfield's vet.
Yeah, the sexual tension was off the charts.

You mean no one has taken Garfield out of its misery yet? I weep.

Nah, Jon's gotten at least one kiss off her before, prompting Garfield to say "Human love. It's so glandular."

FUCK YOU BRAIN, WHY DO YOU REMEMBER THAT?

Geez, what is wrong with her lips?

I used to like Garfield. Like, in the 80s. You know, before it was written by committee. My favorite Garfield moment was when he warned Odie he was going to "kick [him] into next Tuesday." He kicked Odie off-panel. Four or five strips went by, allowing the reader time to forget about the threat. Then, on the following Tuesday, the cartoon was simply Garfield walking along in the first and second frames, and the third frame had Odie falling from seemingly nowhere to crush Garfield.

I laughed. And it's way funnier if you just read it and haven't had it explained to you second-hand by some hack on the internet.

lesson: people who have conversations with their cats infrequently get laid

(at this point a person much cruder than myself would make a joke using the word pussy. i will not, as the modern parlance has it, go "there")

So whatever happened on Liberty Meadows? Did Brandy and Frank ever get together? Was Oscar the wiener-dog the best man?

You what I like about Garfield?

It was funny when I was like ten and I know it'll be funny again when I'm a hundred. The years in between? Not so much.

I always thought Jon was a schizophrenic and that was why his cat talked. Also explains why he had such trouble with women.

I think this has been the first real "story arc" in Garfield since Lyman disappeared.

Frankly, I've been waiting for her to explosively thrust her demon-clawed fist right through his brittle weakling thorax and tear out his pulpy malformed heart and eat it right in front of him before he loses consciousness from shock and blood loss.

Dollars to donuts he/they are "quitting" because of flagging readership and income. So after they "quit" they can go crazy nuts with all the memorabelia and anthologies.

Garfield isn't all bad:

And oddly enough, I'm feeling the "quitting" vibe as well, loq.

I love that it was a Garfield post that brought dodgy out of his apparent retirement.

I was holding out for Family Circle, but I'll take whatever I can get.

I also get the "quitting" vibe. Garfield's line of "And they lived happily ever after" sure sounded like a finale to me.

Besides, isn't Garfield like, 30 years old? He can't live forever!
*thought Snoopy made it past 50*

This was the first time I could remember a real, fun plot, though, and I loved it.
