My cat died tonight. →[More:]It's been coming for a while, but of course I'm still sad. Evie was 18 years old; she had been with me since I was 12 and she was a kitten. She was a very tough little girl but a sweetheart, and a wonderful friend. I know that many of you are pet lovers also, and I wanted to share.

'Course, I am probably applying my 2 year old daughter's traits to your pet...We call her Evie too. Was your cat named Evelyn originally? Our Evie is a real stinker at times. Hee.

Evie is short for Eva actually, richat. Funny thing is, I often called her "poodle."

Shit, amro. So very sorry. Wish I could say something to make it hurt less. If anything, I guess, know that lots of people are here to listen to you even past the point when you think you should be done confessing your sadness.

I'm sorry, amro. She looked like a lovely girl. My first cat lived till she was 16 (from when I was 5 till 21) so I know how it feels to lose one after you've grown up with her.

Ah...so her Evie was probably with a long eee sound then...Well, for what it's worth, I don't call Ev "poodle", although I might start, now. I like it.

Hope my chatter isn't noisy amro. I hope you are doing okay. Losing a loved one's never easy, even when you know it's coming.

amro, my heart goes out to you snd anyone else touched by yr cat's life. I lost my 18 year old Charlie to old age (hell, 18 is old) in May, and I lost my beloved 2 year old Natasha in Feburary in custody bullshit with my ugly and foul-souled wife when we split. I miss 'em both more than the wife.

And Evie is short for Eva? I'd ask for an explaination as to how that's possible, but now likely wouldn't be a good time.

Oh amro. I'm so sorry. It's so hard to lose an old friend, and I wish I could do or say something to make the pain less, but I can't. Only time will do that, and you'll always miss her. Much love to you and know that eventually you'll be able to look back and see the happy memories. It's so hard to lose a pet at any time, and losing one who has shared your life for so long is doubly hard, because you're losing a conduit to your old self. (((((((amro)))))))

Sorry to hear about Evie, amro. I know how hard it is to lose a creature you're so close to. It's wonderful that you two had such a great long time together, and Evie got to see a lot big and important changes in your life, and was always there for you. Having lost Moondog, and gotten a new puppy in the last 6 months I know that you can't replace Evie, but you can find a new soul to share your life with. My thoughts are with you amro!

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost an 18 y/o cat who, thankfully, passed away in his sleep on his favourite afghan. We found great comfort in that and the fact he had a long, wonderful life. It still hurt and when I would go to my mother's home, there were times when I'd swear that I could see him coming around a corner.
