It's interesting that alternative histories work quite well in sci-fi and other stories, yet sound so damn unrealistic and implausible in the wiki form. Had someone written a book where, say, Gorbachev had been killed in a car crash, I would have probably found it quite plausible. But there's no way I could agree with the explanation given in this wiki. How can a change not take place if the society is ripe for it? Even without Gorbachev, something would still have changed in the Soviet Union. Even if Glasnost and Perestroika had not occurred, they still couldn't have maintained their old course for long.
Apart from this, I still found these histories an interesting read, though.
