I saw Tracy Curtis at the Royal Oak in Halifax. Her music's pretty patchy, but she's got a couple of stand out tracks. She told a great story about John Peel, [More:]and how after she sent her music to him, he sent a charming letter back thanking her for the demo tape, and asking where Amerford is. She wanted to write back, but didn't because she didn't want to go all fanboy on the mighty John Peel. Shortly after that, he died. This is her song to him and I think it's a corker. It makes me sad to hear it. Here's to telling people how much we love them when we can, in case it's the last time we see or speak to them. (* hugs e/j again *)

(In case it's not the song that's playing, hunt out "Dear John")
Great song. I met John Peel when I worked at Sounds in 76-78. Top bloke. He used to write a column for the paper and because it was in the days before anyone had fax or email, he'd usually pop in with it on his way to the BBC (we were in offices above Covent Garden station). I was usually so awestruck that I could barely do anything other than say hello and usually mumble something about the football results, if Liverpool had done well.
