Gah, yeah, speck.
These people and their food access.
Later I'm gonna need anything that goes with horseradish.
Or involving a fresh garden paradise with a seafood grotto.
Or--
I love horseradish in my kitchen. In my garden, not so much.
We got a bit of horseradish root mixed in with some other herbs that a neighbor kindly gave us. Horseradish is highly invasive, and hydra-like, any bit of root will grow a new plant. We now have a horseradish garden.
Back when I was a meateater, I LOVED to have prime rib and horseradish. Not horseradish sauce, mind you, but pure horseradish. Cleared out the sinuses!
When I lived in Florida, there was a bar on Dixie Highway that served a prime rib and jack cheese sandwich with horseradish on the side. I'd slather the meat with it and use the rest for the fries and wash it down with a couple cold ones.
Useta go to Lexington Market in Baltimore allatime. There they had a guy selling ground horseradish and ground coconut, and a mixture -- you could get it heavy on the horseradish, heavy on the coconut, or 50-50. Horseradish tastes surprisingly good with coconut, and I'm not sure if it's available anywhere else. I wonder how long it took the grinder fellow to try the mix.
Gawd, I love horseradish. I like it in all forms, especially in hot Chinese mustard. (That IS what makes that stuff so hot, isn't it? It tastes like it...)
