I get an error whenever I click those IRC links. I'm on Safari.

mIRC is Windows, I think.

I downloaded Conversation and it told me my name was already in use on there. Weird. I'll try snak. ty

Yeah if you start with snak, skip clicking the link and go in to configure it, it's simplest. Lemme see if I can scare up a config page.

Mozilla comes with an IRC client. It is under "Window" on the Mac version.
