MetaChat is an informal place for MeFites to touch base and post, discuss and
chatter about topics that may not belong on MetaFilter. Questions? Check the FAQ. Please note: This is important.
It's funny that, while MetaChat was born1 out of a desire for somewhere to put stuff that was not considered suitable for MeFi and chat about it, it is now considered bad form to suggest that people who post things to MeFi that are considered to be unacceptable "take it to MetaChat".
I sometimes catch myself getting offended, but then realise that MetaChat is probably far more suited to things like challenging the 3,2234,5678 urban legends than AskMe is. It is the inference that MeCha is some kind of second-rate MeFi that annoys me sometimes, however.
1Yes, I am aware that there was much more to it than that. The overall point stands, however.
sorry all. I just know that loquacious spends a lot of time here and, like dg said, I've always thought chattier questions could find a friendly home here. I'll be more eloquent and accurate in the future. You know I like it here and don't think of it like some crummy suburb.
*where's the fuckin' fish?*
*points to the fish tank in the corner*
Don't disturb them just yet, though, they're shy about performing in public. They'll be finished soon.
*reminds jessamyn that there are many handsome single men (and/or women) hanging around here and that they are much nicer than on MeFi, even if they are the same people.*

Blag, why not post it to our front page? And to Projects?
I'm enjoying this.
Trying to find out if "you stretched all the nerves in the body from end to end, they would be about 47 miles long". It looks like it's probably true, but I've seen "hundreds of miles of nerves", as well as "thousands", and specifically 3,000. (But "45" comes up a lot - probably rounded down from 47.) Fun.
Seems like it'd solve a lot of problems if MEfi would just adopt digg's design. Don't like the comment? thumb it down, hide it and move the fuck on. Sure takes a load off the admin. Awful lot of energy spent on MEfi discussing how to perfect the tools instead of using the damn things.
By the way, I think it's a great project. I'm very sad that the MeFi hivemind didn't get a chance to work on it fully, but I hope it gets completed. In some ways, it really does deserve a page of its own, and when finished, it deserves to be posted as a project, then linked in the blue, and then have the link forwarded to everyone you know who sends around those damn lists of contemporary legends.
