Photo (or Picture or Image, for a change) Friday 9 June: How do you feel right now? →[More:]
I dunno how to explain the giggles, joy and slight pain set off by my baby biting my big toes with her first two incredibly sharp teeth. :)
...its a bit like having a kitten climb up your leg... ≡ Click to see image ≡
Miko, at the Iola complex, a former TB sanitarium in Rochester, NY. Most of the original buildings are gone but some remain, along with some neglected bits like those benches.
They look late Victorian. For some reason, I'm kind of fascinated with late Victorian public spaces. The reason is probably that I grew up around a lot of them, on the Jersey shore. The benches, fountains, pavilions...all cool, all reflecting a culture of public pastime and promenade that we don't really have any more.
Heh. I think what I was more trying to express was a wifty, stargazing, unsure feeling, kind of poised between water and sky like that, looking for something that makes sense...
Oooh. Miko! I've only ever had one refrigerator magnet in my life, and it just happens to be that image. Under that naked, wisty, unsure girl is where I put up my carefully organized shopping lists, the two or one times I do that every year!
Essexjan, what is there, like a preshow? Opening ceremonies? The games don't start for another few hours, right?
Yeah, loads of yak on lots of sports channels, then an opening ceremony which has just finished and which featured (surprise surprise) children carrying flags of the world, cowbells, about a million blokes in lederhosen slapping the shit out of themselves, and lots of old players, including the great Pele.
The first game kicks off in about 20 minutes. Germany (the hosts) v Costa Rica.
