For all the "aunts" out there and the people who love them Finally, an AskMe question that isn't repetitive or annoying.
It's not repetitive?

I've been told that Louis Armstrong used to credit somebody as his "arranger" on his liner notes. What he meant was that when Louis travelled, this person would make the "arrangements" for herbalicious goodness to be available.

Could be apocryphal; I don't know the source.

You know, I actually do have a stoner artist auntie who has been smoking up daily since she started hanging out with jazz musicians in Greenwich Village in 1947. She lived for years in the Chelsea Hotel. She's a little spaced out, okay it is true ;-), but, in her mid 70s now, still toking away, still a delight to hang out with. She also still uses the slang of her youth, and I quote from a conversation I had with her years ago:

"Oh wow, man, you still don't have the dough to get a pad? Here, smoke a little tea, you'll feel better."

I can't imagine my dad ever smoking tea but my friends insist that since he hung out with black jazz musicians in the 50s, he must have. One of these days I will have to ask him.

Dam, tilda, sounds like you come from hep stock.

I know that at least a few of my uncles and aunts probably smoked a little weed. It was New York in the 60's, for crying out loud. My dad claims to have 'tried' it, I'm guessing in Nam. My mom, on the other hand, would faint dead at the sight of the stuff, I think, although I think her bro may have partaken a time or two, though I've got no proof.

My mom was an opera singer too. I guess my parents are a bit cooler than average.
