Dr. Wu is one of my favorite commenters -- so sharp and funny -- and this post sort of blew my socks off. It's by no means the "best" but the combination of being ill/up late/reading this dizzying text certainly made it one of the more memorable.
This post on the Russian version of Dorothy Gale from darling languagehat.
This post on how to get fascimilies of the original Sherlock Holmes mysteries home-delivered, because I signed up myself, my father, and several friends whom I know will appreciate it.
This found photography post by our own dear greasy skillet. There was another found photograph posts -- from a range of eras and cameras, really wonderful, I remember a series that looked like a GI's snaps from WWII -- and I can't seem to find it now, but I loved it, so if you remember it and would link it I'd be so happy.
Lush's incredibly well-researched and written post on Italo Calvino.
Bonus: my favorite ever AskMe moment. I doubt it will ever be topped.
melissa may, I totally agree. That may be beyond the best askme moment, and my favorite internet moment ever.
I totally cried when I read that. Amazing.
I was wracking my mind trying to figure out how to answer this, when I looked at my desktop and saw what I see every time I look there, a print by Hiroshige. sgt.Serenity's post may be my favorite of the year, and I liked the controversy over single-word posts and (implicitly) cultural competency that it engendered.
I second melissa may's nomination of Lush's calvino post. I had come across around four of Lush's links and was debating posting it to the blue, but her post just rocked. Also inspired me to make the obscure cities post a bit better than I would normally have.
