First let me say that I very much enjoy and respect the music (and to a large extent the beliefs) of Pete Seeger.... [mi]
thank being said, it's hilarious to listen to the album "Songs of Hope and Struggle", a compilation of Union ballads and Civil Rights songs, with my soundcard transforming the audio to "Chipmunk voice".
I've always been a bit standoffish about Seeger. I had an early Newport LP ('61 or '62 I think) and really liked his stuff.
Then over the years I've heard interviews (and saw the Dylan doco the other night) and he really does come off like a smarmy thinks-he-knows-it-all git. It's like he's on ether with his head above the clouds and he just trots out his selfimportant role in the protest movement with that smile that wants to be whacked I'm better 'n you are attitude.
But I agree with stilicho. The whole anti-electric-Dylan thing was blown way out of proportion. Crashing his bike silenced them!
